2013 Years of Service Awards

This year's recipients of Years of Service awards have an accumulated years of service of 295 years working for Clayton County.  They were honored by a speech by Ron McCartney, Chairman, Board of Supervisors, and a certificate.  They were thanked for their many dedicated years of service.  Clayton County has approximately 105 employees with this group representing 15% of the workforce.

What's New in County 22 - April 2013

This month in What’s New in County 22, I would like to explain a new procedure we are implementing at the sheriff’s office concerning Carrying Concealed Weapon permits.  When you come in to get your permit there is an application you need to fill out, and we need a copy of your driver’s license.  Once that is complete we will run a criminal history check and mail the permit back to you.  This could take anywhere from one to three weeks depending on different circumstances and how busy the administrative assistants are.  We will be offering the photo ID’s for the Clayton County weapon permits on Thursdays from 3pm to 6pm.  If this absolutely does not work, you may contact me and I will try to make different arrangements.  In the past we would try to accommodate everyone that came in and did the photo ID’s right away.  Due to the increase in the number of applicants, the procedure we do now is just not working.  For one, the dispatchers have to drop everything they are doing to run the criminal history.  Then one of the three of us that know how to run the ID machine has to drop everything we are doing to make the photo ID.  This is a problem when we are busy with other more important tasks. It would just work better for all of us to do it the same day and time every week.  If I feel there is a need for different time slots, I might offer one at night or a time on a weekend, but I would advertise that if I did.

Part-time position requiring presence in Elkader for an average of two days per week. Attorney may also have a private practice while holding this position. Job duties include handling cases in Juvenile, Magistrate, and District Court. Applicants need not be residents of Clayton County but must be admitted to practice law in Iowa.
